Shaw & Co has been shortlisted for three awards at this year’s South West Insider’s Annual Dealmaker Awards.

The annual awards celebrate the standout deals in the region over the past 12 months, recognising and rewarding the wealth of talent across its corporate finance and dealmaking community.

The company has been shortlisted in the following categories:

• Corporate Finance Advisory Team of the Year

The last 12 months has been the most important in Shaw & Co’s history. Earlier this year it surpassed a major milestone – the completion of over £0.5bn worth of business transactions since the company’s inception in 2011.

The team has recently overseen the £24m sale of The Safeguarding Company to Tes (Times Educational Supplement); the sale of Canopy Simulations to global brand Michelin; the £9m sale of Wiltshire-based accounting software business Data Interconnect to global digital finance transformation leader BlackLine; and the management buyout of Now Education, one of the UK’s leading suppliers of staff for primary, secondary and SEND schools across England and Wales, which valued the business at £28m.

• Dealmaker of the Year

Jim Shaw, Founder and CEO of Shaw & Co, has been nominated in the ‘Dealmaker of the Year’ category. In 2013 Jim was named as Insider’s ‘South West Young Deal Maker of the Year’ and since then has grown Shaw & Co into one of the most dynamic specialist advisory businesses in the UK.

As well as surpassing a major milestone this year – the completion of over £0.5bn worth of business transactions since the company’s inception in 2011 – the company also expanded its Bristol team and appointed a new Partner – Connie Biller – to spearhead its expansion across the North West of England.

• Small Deal of the Year (Sub £10m)

Shaw & Co advised on the £8.9m sale of Plymouth-based thin-film coating company Artemis Optical to Gooch & Housego (G&H), a specialist manufacturer of optical components and systems. Stephens Scown and Burges Salmon also played integral roles on the deal.

The acquisition enhanced G&H's product portfolio, creating new opportunities for vertical integration and the cross-selling of the companies’ combined capabilities. In turn, Artemis was able to access new customers and territories for its offering by utilising G&H’s resources, expertise and global reach.

Jim Shaw, Founder and CEO of Shaw & Co said: “The South West  region comprises a host of great businesses and a huge array of talent so it is particularly pleasing to have been nominated for three awards. I would particularly like to thank our clients as they have provided us with a platform that has enabled us to demonstrate our skills and expertise, be it in acquisition and exit strategies, securing finance for growth projects, or selling a business.

“I would also like to thank the team at Shaw & Co who have had an extraordinarily successful 12 months. Good luck all those on the shortlist - hopefully we will carry off one of the winner’s trophies on the night!”

The ceremony takes place on Thursday 27 June at the Bristol Marriott Hotel. For further information visit the awards website
